    Morphs under wraps.

We all know that many breeders like to keep new animals under wraps and that's understandable.
But how many are there that we don't know about? I'm not asking for any information besides numbers.
It would give us 'little people' something to look forward to in the years ahead.

if we don't know about them how can we give you a number.. LOL

I have heard that Ian in Africa has "6 new recessive animals and 4-5 new codom" that he has proven and just not let on to the market

Not an attack on you Ed, but that recessive number sounds very inflated to me. We barely have over 6 recessive morphs now, and he is going to double the amount we have with proven recessives that noone knows about. Sounds a little exaggerated, but it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.

    I don't buy it.

Not taken as an attack.. Bro. I could have misremembered it could have been reversed or my number may just be way off or the person could have been blowing smoke up a certain orifice. Its just one of the many rumors that are floating around.

    Re: Morphs under wraps.

I believe it is very possible that there are as many as 6 recessives in collections right hear in the states. These projects are likely in various stages. The breeders that are working with these projects are primarily larger ones(have best access to them), and therefore, conservative with naming/marketing/making public new morphs.

I am a numbers guy. There has been a HUGE increase in the number of different looking, albeit subtle, animals make their way into this country. Many of them sold as captive hatched clutches. It's a 4-5 year process in most cases to have any idea what you have without a lot of speculation. I agree with Tim regarding someone "knowingly" sitting on 6 or even 3 recessives is highly unlikely. People want to get paid!! A new recessive -- even an ugly one -- would create quite a buzz!!!

    Ian in Africa?

Not sure if you mean Ian G or Noah

Ian G is in Virginia, and has stuff most people can only dream of. The top collection in the county for new morphs and one of a kind combo's. We have seen a few of his that were insane!

Noah - Is in Africa and is the only supplier over there that breeds balls. He has a lot of new stuff if it isn't from Ian its from him.

Not sure about the 6 recessive animals but I am sure there is a lot of co-dom/ dom animals being worked out that haven't been spoke of yet. A lot!!

We should be proving out a few morphs this year, females are gravid, just waiting on the eggs!

That number could be true, but are the snakes really that nice looking? Alot of so called "proved out" morphs on king snake just look like special normals. I'll call it a morph once its something that people would want to keep as a cool looking pet( Pieds, albinos, butters, etc)

Come here little guy. You're awfully cute and fluffy but unfortunately for you, you're made of meat

    Re: Morphs under wraps.

A lot of that would depend on what you call a morph. I'm sure there are plenty of subtle variations that would prove to be genetically reproducible. The question would be, does anybody care if you can reliably reproduce a funny looking head spot, or an unusual pattern on the underside of the tail? As far as seeing something that would cause your jaw to drop and knock your socks off, I'm betting that there are a few nice things in the works but probably not a lot.

I don't know a single ball python breeder that's been doing this for any length of time that doesn't have a few dinking around projects in the works, but only time will tell whether or not those projects are in the jaw dropping category or in the funny head spot category.

    Mark
