Black Milk Snake has finally arrived!

It seems like I've been waiting ages for weather to clear, but my male black milk snake is finally here! He came from Kara at Nerd who was very helpful (I can't say thanks enough, Kara) and he's absolutely amazing.

Right from the get-go there was no fear, no aggression, no nothing. Just slithered on out of his tub like he already owned the place. I got all of two seconds to hold him and then he found a comfy hiding spot.

I didn't bother him too much with pictures. These are the few that I was able to get.

I dare anyone to look at the last picture and tell me that "cute" is not an adjective used to describe snakes.

Funny side story: He was shipped to my dad's house instead of my apartment and I asked my dad to open up the box when it arrived and remove the heat pack so he wouldn't fry and just make sure he was ok. My dad's like, "yeah, sure, no problem." He opens the box and yelps, then says, "I can't open that!" When I asked him why he explained that the box was full of loose newspaper and he didn't want the snake to escape. No amount of coaxing could convince him that the snake was inside a clear container inside the box. He drove an hour and a half to bring the animal to me so that I could take care of it. I love my dad.

    Nice looking snake!

I've got a Cali King myself. Love their temperment. He seems to like to be held! I'm sure you'll have good times with yours.

    Enjoy

Awww how cute! That's one of the milksnakes that top our list. I'm fascinated with how they change from that multi-colored banded baby into a stunningly gorgeous all black adult. I think I've read that they are one of the biggest of the milksnake group and different from most snakes, the males outsize the females (someone correct me if I'm wrong please).

You were right on all accounts. This one is a male so I'm hoping for some size. I've got my little BP; I wanted something large without having too much muscle. I think this little guy will be just the thing within 2 years or so.

I've got to go get him some food today. I forgot to ask when he was due to eat and now he's a day late. I'll let you all know how that goes.

Theyre awesome snakes, kinda the same scenario with me, i have my little ball, and I have my black milk/carpet to get kind of "bigger" without being real heavy bodied or anything enormous...My guy is a lot of fun to watch at times (I keep him on aspen and random moments he just pops out, and goes back down)
    Too many.

I have a Cali King and just recently got a Normal BP.

My Cali King is smart for sure, he pokes around and loves the aspen bedding.

My BP, I have to say, is quite a smart one too. Just got him so i'm still watchin and comparing.

The Kingsnake is obviously much more active. Having two types is perfect for me. I love em' both!

You should document how he changes color as he grows older that would be facisnating

I was just up at NERDs over the Easter weekend but didn't see any BMK's in the store. That is probably the last snake I am going to get, I love the look of a black snake. Hope you post more pics, especially as he changes color.
