DIY hide spot
In the petstore I saw a hollowed out piece of foam material that you could place up against the front of an aquarium so that you can see inside the hide spot....I was wondering if it would be safe to make my own out of green floral styrofoam?
What are everyone's thoughts?
P.S. If you aren't sure what I am talking about its called "T-Rex Foam Peek View Burrow"

I don't see why it wouldn't work the same. Now the big issue is will it make your ball python feel secure. My ball pythons don't like anything that is remotely clear for some reason!

Re: DIY hide spot
Thats what I was wondering too since it was designed more for lizards but considering how cheap the material is I may as well try it...I REALLY like the idea of being able to see into the hide spot but I don't want to jeopardize comfort or security.

Re: DIY hide spot
Well if you're using a glass tank with this type of thing you could always just place a square of black construction paper on the outside of the tank at the viewing area. Then when you want a peek, lift the paper.
My only concern, not knowing this particular product, is will it be easy to clean. Snakes can really make a mess of their hides using them as a toilet. Having to chip a stuck urate or scrub baby snake poo off a hide made me quickly want something very easy to soak and scrub.

Thats a good point....this is not a material that I could soak and scrub (at least I don't think so). I guess that means I would be carving a new one everytime it needed cleaned

When it does come apart it disintegrates into a powder so I'm wondering if that could cause any harm?? i.e. breathing it in, etc.
