I know three weeks of not eating is not anything significant for adult ball pythons, but for us this was an exciting day. We always feel better about new snakes after they finally eat. All of our little guys and girls have eaten in less than 4 days after getting them.
Today one of the two big girls, Osiris, we purchased finally ate. We have had her for two weeks and the person we bought her from said it had been a week since her last feeding. She went to the Vet after the first week as part of our standard for bringing in new snakes is getting them checked by the vet. Today we tried to feed her a little differently. My wife took her out and I went to work. I pulled out her hides and slipped the rat in. My wife handled her for a while and once she was good and awake I cleaned all the poo the rat had left up and we slid her in the tub and shut the door. About two minutes later the tub made a bang and a couple rat sqeeks later we looked in and found her putting it in her mouth.![]()
Now all we have left is the really big girl Egeria. She came in with a light RI and today was the last day of injections. She looks clear to us, but goes and sees the Vet tomorrow to make sure she has a clean bill of health. Then we figure we will try the same routine with her tomorrow night. We were all ready to try today, but remembered the vet will have to handle her tomorrow and figured it would be better to have her wait one more day. I'm guessing she will not eat this time since all the stress she has been under with injections and Vet visits, but it would make us feel better if she did. My guess is after tomorrow if she gets 4 or 5 days of peace and quite she will be ready to eat!
