    Another feeding question.

Hi all if you could look at my pics and let me know how big or ofte shoul I feed Orion? It was only 5 days from the last feeding and he struck his 2nd meal with vigor. Should I be feeding him more? I am currently feeding him pinky mice (frozen).
    Thanks

Oh pics are in my gallery..

    Re: Another feeding question.

At that age, feeding every five days is fine...and every seven days is fine as well. Whatever works best for you and whatever the snake is willing to do.

What you need to look at more closely is the size of the prey you are offering. Pinky mice are like snacks, even to a baby BP. They're just too small. I know it can seem scary because their heads are so tiny, but trust me, they can take much larger prey. A small adult mouse would probably work just fine.

thanks for the info, on my second feeding i offered a larger fuzzy, i actually would of never thought she could get it down but to my amazement she did, that was also my first time watching her eat so it was amazing for me, very cool and i am ready for a long ride watching her grow up

    Re: Another feeding question.

So I could be feeding Orion "snacks" so to speak and then that would explain why it is swallowed very fast. So every 3 days untill these are gone. then up to fuzzy and or smalls...

I read they can eat up to 2x the size of their head.. So these pinky are about the size of Orion's head.. Hmmm

Thanks for the info.. Are they like dogs? where they will eat just because they can? Or do they tend to stop when they are full? I was thinking of trying to feed another in 3 days and didnt want to over feed..

    Re: Another feeding question.

If you want to get rid of the pinks before moving up to a new size...rather than feeding more frequently....offer mutiple pinks in a single meal. 3-4 is probably good, but he may even eat more.

They'll stop eating when they don't need to eat anymore. (I'm not sure a concept such as "full" applies to snakes, though.) But as a growing baby snake, they will pretty much eat as much as you give them. That doesn't mean feeding them every other day is good for them, though. They need time to fully digest (or at least mostly digest) one meal before moving on to the next one.
