    Eyecaps

My guy shed all fine, except for part of an eye cap on one eye...Just a part of it is on the eye still and I didn't want to try to get it off, just curious if best thing was to wait until the next shed, or have some one (experienced) do it?

    Re: Eyecaps

I had the same problem with my bp so i put him in a warm, damp towel in a tub, over top of a heating pad to keep him warm (if you dont have a human heating pad which is what I used, just make sure the room is warm and you soak the towel in nice warm water) and I let him sit in there for half an hour or so then took a look to see if he got it off. He actually had a piece of shed attached to it that loosened in the towel. I used a wet q-tip and ever so gently rubbed the corner of the eye and it came right off. if you are uncomfortable doing the q-tip part, thats ok, try the towel and he may rub it off on his own.

If it doesn't come off, it will either before or during the next shed. If you can put the tub with him inside it right in his enclosure, that would be the best way to keep it warm while hes in there.

Hope this helps, Just my own experience.

yeah I tried soaking and everything...I'm definitely going to have to try the q-tip idea and see if it works..just curious if it would get infected or be fine by the next shed

    Re: Eyecaps

You can try a soaking followed by encouraging the snake to slither face first through a rough, damp facecloth gripped in your hand. This often works beautifully to get rid of the occasional stuck eyecap, tail tip or other bits that stuck.

When it comes to eyecaps just be VERY careful about messing with them. I've seen advice about tweezers and tape that make me flat out shudder! A gentle q-tip is likely fine but just be very, very careful. Most times that eyecap will come off on the next shed if you get the humidity bang on so mess with it as little as possible is usually best for the less experienced keeper. Do always check that any fully encircling shed (especially the tail tip) has come off cleaning though.

Here's a couple of great links for you about shedding and how to handle a less than perfect shed.

the soaking/qtip really wasnt working...just curious it's just on one eye, would this lead to infection or should it be fine.?
