    Thermostat question

Hey, I've been using the Helix DBS-1000 Proportional Temperature Control System for my rack which has worked well because I only had to plug one cord into it. I have begun the process of switching all of my snakes to the 2x4 cages, which I now have 4 of (all using Ultratherm pads).. which is too many to fit into the 3 pronged Helix thing.

I was reading my Helix paper that came in the box, and it said that I can connect a power strip to the helix for more heaters.. is that correct? Can I do this with the Helix I have or would I need the grounded thermostat to do that?

Let me know if you have any idea, I'm thinking its okay because the paper that came with it said to do it.

Thanks in advance! I would love it if I could keep this Helix instead of selling it to get a new thermostat.

You can but remember that when they are in different cages like that the temps might be different due to the enviroment they are in. You might have one tank right on the correct temp and the one under is colder so make sure you check the temps till your sure they are ok

Hey thanks, I have one cage by itself with a Ultratherm pad that never gets above 94 in the basking spot.. but I have 3 cages stacked and the extra heat was getting the basking spot up to 113, but the Helix is now keeping every cage at a pretty even 91-94 in the basking spot, I haven't seen it drop or raise in the past day

Also remember when you open the cage with the thermostat probe in it that it starts to cool and the helix starts pumping out power! That means the other cages get warmer.

    Re: Thermostat question

Thanks guys! Hey, one more question.. it says the Helix can take 500watts of power I think? does anyone know how many heat pads add up to that?

And I believe I will be doubling my collection this month.. going from 7 snakes to 13.. EEK! I'm trying to get everything figured out ASAP

    Re: Thermostat question

Just look at the box that your heat pad came in for the specifications, or call the manufacturer and find out how many watts your heating device requires. This will tell you how many pads you can run with one Helix.

Thanks, I'm going to take a closer look at the heat pad phamplet I got to see how much it will hold.. I know it will at least handle the ones I have now because I had e-mailed Rich about it to make sure I didn't blow anything up
