Please share your feeding "routine"

We're coming up on our first feeding attempt with our new baby bp, Monti.

I'm interested in reading how everybody else does feedings.

We have a separate "kritter keeper" that we'd like to feed her in...how long should I put her in there before we actually present the mouse to her? It will have heat, etc. But should I give her time to acclimate to the different space, etc? cover it?

I've read that it's better to feed at night, correct?

I'm planning to thaw her mouse in a baggie and then hot water...and perhaps do the blow-dryer thing?

Once she's fed (hopefully, lol!), when do we move her back into her regular enclosure?

I don't want to mess this all up, lol!

So anyway...can you walk me through how YOU do it? Timeline, etc.

Take the rats and mice out

Put them in plastic bags

let them thaw for a few hours

put them between some heating pads for about 30 minutes

open the bags to get that funk goin and the snakes in feed mode

open the cages

do the dangle dance

Every 7 days depending of if they are paired up or not.

I go through my rats and get out all the feeders.

I offer and leave them alone I go back and check after like 30 minutes. I have some that I know don't eat right away and take some time.

after time I go and check and mark who fed and who didn't

Any one that didn't eat their rat gets taken and put back in the rack

So you feed right in their regular cage/tub/enclosure thingie? Do you have any problems with them striking toward your hand when you reach in to take them out at other times?

I had read to have a separate "feeding" place, so they don't associate eating with their main "home," and so they won't "mistake" your hand coming to take them out, for food. True? No?

It isn't a dumb question...it's a common misconception. You will be fine feeding inside their enclosure

I do not use tubs, and I feed in a separate container so no substrate gets eaten.

1. Start hot water running.
2. Dig feeders out of freezer, start soaking in water.
3. Go do something for a while.
4. Reheat water.
5. If feeding live mice, get live mice from cages.
6. Kill mouse, feed cornsnake. Rinse, repeat if eating 2. If Lourdes is eating, kill bunny firstst and feed him, then feed Jenson.
7. Drain sink and loosely pat dry-ish with paper towel.
8. Zombie dance f/t rat in front of boa <insert velociraptor action of boa through cage foliage....*POUNCE!*>.
9. Live controlled mouse dance in front of bp.
10. Return live uneaten mice to cages.

I've got 22 that I feed in their enclosures that never try to bite me when I go in to handle them. But I make sure I don't smell like prey (wash my hands after handling my rats).
