    Lesser vs. Butter

    hey everyone,
i want to add another Morph to my collection before the end of this year. having alil trouble in picking. i like the way the butter looks but everytime i see a lesser it knocks the butter out the picture. but i still find myself wanting a butter. i would you guys & gals to post pics of ur butters & lessers, and their cost on the market. i think this will make my desicion alil better.
    tks.

    Re: Lesser vs. Butter

i own hot lesser. most people think it is a butter. but i only bought him as he is the nicest lesser i have ever seen. now butters as a whole group are lighter in color than lessers. i am not talking about every animal buy it goes like this

mojo are the darker of the three
    lessers are in the middle
butters are the lightest in color.

as far as prices they varry a bit.

these are prices i have seen not what i think

    mojos 450-600

    lessers 700-1000

    butters 1000-1200

so if you want to go just by price butters are on the top of the scale

    Re: Lesser vs. Butter

I've seen superb examples of all three morphs, and lousy examples of all three morphs. I guess it would come down to either money(go with butter for the highest priced snake) or the individual snakes you have available to buy to you.
I like lessers. I always have, ever since I saw the first on Ralph's site. I have mojaves due to price(when you only have so much to spend.. you deal with what you have, plus.. pastave!!!!)

    Re: Lesser vs. Butter

We were at NARBC yesterday and really to be honest there is such a HUGE range of mojos, butters, and lessers. That gene has to be very wide ranging. I saw some mojos that looked like lessers, I saw some lessers that looked like butters, I saw some butters that were dark like mojos. I think that it really just depends on the breeder. I have two mojos from the same breeder from two different males and one is really brown phase and the other is dark phase. It should be neat to see over the next couple of years how those genes turn out long term. Also I saw some Lessers that are a new African line at the show are even crazier looking than anything I have seen so far with those lines so we will see how this all pans out.

btw - your lesser is SMOKIN'

The mom has alot ot do with it. I would pick the animal individually first and not the morph. They are very similar, pick the one that grabs you

    Re: Lesser vs. Butter

now i have a better understanding on how they branch in the market. i think all three are amazing morphs ! im getting a mojo this year already, putting $ down on her in March. i seen the lesser & butter both are eye cathers. i think lesser would be in my range, but if i come across a good deal then ill go after the butter.

if there are any more pics of the 2, please post.

Matt- amazing, love the pics, they are a great morph to have & look at. tks for posting.

    Re: Lesser vs. Butter

keep in mind i have a lesser and i have some breeding loaners out to get at least poss 8 butters this spring along with the 10 or so lessers i will be produceing this year. (all of wich are allready called for so this is not a pitch)
dont think that just because you only have x ammount to spend that limits you to what you can get. i have seen crap lessers and top notch sell at 750 and i have seen crap lessers and top notch sell for 1500. same with butters. also with mojos. my advice is to shop around and make offers. (keep in mind offers at least need to be respectfull) dont offer 700 for a snake someone has 1500 on. but if you have 850 to spend and are looking at a 1000$ snake you have to have dont be afraid to say 850 cash today. 90% of the time you will own it. this is done by most (not all) in this world of reptiles. the only thing that pisses people off is when you come on a board and say how chap/ good of a deal you got and blab prices.

also keep in mind there are a lot of crooks out there that will have a nice lesser and try to sell it as a butter. like mine at the top. i have had many people ask me where i got my butter. LOL i tell them it is a lesser. i buy exclusively from hobbyests like my self. most people that do this and dont care if they make a dime. all i want to do is be able to pay expenses and have enaugh left over to buy some new hot snakes each year.

if anyone ever comes across a deal and you want to know if it is a good one or not shooy me a e-mail. i will give you my honest opinion if it is a good deal or not. i dont say this to be nobel. i just wish someone would of done this from me when i was greener than i stil am today. you will find some people have a agenda in this bisnuess when it comes to giving advice. for most it is to keep prices high so they can sell there snakes for more and make big money. i am one of the few that cant wait for most morphs to fall so everyone can own them.

look at the corn snake and lepord geckos these animals were once a high dollor thing. but now the high dollor animals are scarse to say the least all the people that were in it for the money have got the heck out and what is left is a small group of people that are in it soley for the animals. this is the ball python market i would like to see. people just raiseing them for the love of the snakes not the almighty buck.

sorry for the long post. you know how it is when you get typeing and get run of the mouth going.

    Re: Lesser vs. Butter

These pics don't do him any justice at all but this is my 04 male butter

A nice butter looks better than most any lesser side by side but I hope to have a lesser as well by the end of the year. Similar snakes but each has their own unique beauty. Either way you look at it, you can't go wrong!

Too many boas to list and a few balls as well
