Well, should I stick with frozen??

I've fed my snake 5 times now, three live, and then two frozen. he eats either. frozen are waaaaayyyy more convinient since I don't want a mouse community. Should I just stick with the frozen. I read somewhere that live mice/rats have Thiamine in them. I was thinking maybe a live every 3rd mice or so.??

They do have thiamine in them, but so does F/t. It takes months for the thiamine to deteriorate. Also there is no specific "ball python dietary requirement". F/t will be just fine.

Do what works best for you, that you know your snake will eat reliably.

I wish all my ball pythons would eat FT. If you are lucky enough to have FT eaters then that's what I would do. Easier and cheaper. I think it is even cheaper than raising your own rats.

The problem with switching prey is that you better be ready to feed this type of prey from than on because your BP might not switch back.

I had BP on F/T in the past and once I offered live they had nothing to do with F/T again.

A few will switch back and forth but there is not guaranty.

Again if you switch be prepared for the outcomes.

If F/T is more convinient for you than stick to F/T

I agree, some never even switch to FT so consider yourself fortunate.

All of mine are on f/t and I just make sure I thaw out really thoroughly and then blow dry them to raise the temps... I think it makes a big difference when the snake is being offered a completely thawed rodent.

Re: Well, should I stick with frozen??

In the area where I reside, live rats are $4.20 a piece and f/t can be had for 99 cents a piece if you buy at least 100 at a time. With the added factor of not having to go to the store each time you feed, I choose to feed f/t. If you don't buy more than you can use up in 6 months, loss of nutritional value shouldn't be an issue. I personally dont want to breed rats but I am sure it would be cost effective for somebody with a large number of snakes.

I would defanitely stick with frozens. They are more cost effiecient, and you dont have to worry about them biting your snake. And I agree also. If you decide on f/t then you should stick with only frozens, because if you give them a taste of live some wont go back to f/t.
