Blood after passing faeces
My adult olive shed the day before yesterday. Everything seemed normal: there was a shed and some urine and a small urate deposit. I cleaned out the cage that night. Today she really let loose and took a large crap with heaps of urine to boot. When I was cleaning her tub, I noticed a few small spots of what I'm sure was blood on her paper. Here are some relevant facts:
1) The excrement was on the cool side of the tub (where she doesn't spend much time) - this is normal.
2) The blood spots were on the warm side where she usually stays.
3) The blood spots were all small and faint. It looked as if the amount of blood was very small and/or was slightly diluted.
4) There were about 5 or 6 spots that looked like the could have matched the circular pattern of her coils.
4) The faeces did not appear to contain any blood.
5) The spots were at least two feet from the excrement and there were no streaks in between.
6) After cleaning her tub, I gave her a superficial examination. Her mouth looked clean, and so did her vent. Also, her attitude was normal.
So, I know that some minor bleeding from the vent during shed is common. I didn't notice any blood from the shed - only from her excrement. However, the shed was all rolled up and wet with urine so I didn't actually inspect it. Also, the blood spots I did see were only 24 hours later.
I somewhat worried. But, I want to think that her cloaca was already irritated from the shed, and the rather large crap she took simply stretched things out to the point that there was some small bleeding that stained the paper after she crawled back and coiled up.
Does this seem likely?
