I haven't handled these much, but they are much like cresteds. Sometimes mine mistake my finger to a juicy fat worm though and introduce me to a mouthfull of teeth! They bite harder than cresteds but if you handle gargoyles I think they bite as seldom as cresteds would.
They make a better grip on uneven surfaces, as where cresteds are better at climbing on glass etc. They tend to spend a bit more time out in the open and visible than my cresteds.
Anyway, they are amazing! Some people have told me they look like crocodiles. I think they look more like badgers.
I have 2.2 gargoyles. Their care and husbandry requirements are exactly the same as cresteds. They tend to be calmer, less jumpy and more laid back all around than cresteds, even as hatchlings.
I've noticed that too, they don't jump off your hands as easily as cresteds. When my breeding crested female was young she'd jump right off my hands and onto the floor! I almost freaked out and thought she'd crushed herself falling but she was fine.
I have some and one of my males thinks it is funny to poop on you instead of bite. I guess he is just emptying the storage so he can move faster to escape.
