Has anyone used this thermostat? BAH-1000
http://www.bigappleherp.com/BAH-1000...=2&category=15
It's in my price range and actually has numbers on it, unlike some real cheap ones like the Repti-Temp 500R or the Alife one. Anyone used this with success?

This thermostat will allow your temps to fluctuate greatly, and is more prone to failure than other more reliable thermostats, in other words you would be better of with a dimmer switch until you can invest in a reliable thermostat.
I would not recommend anything less than Ranco or Johnson on the lower end or Helix and Herpstat on the higher end.

So you mean something like this: http://www.reptilebasics.com/Ranco-E...0-p-16171.html
I am just trying to deal with a rather small budget. I figured maybe the cheap ones would work if you tinker with them for awhile (I am not planning to stick my snake right on it, but set up a new tub first and make sure conditions are right.) But maybe not *sigh*. It's hard being in college and being obsessed with animals. I need a PT job again.
Now, it says it requires wiring (or pay $15 extra to have it wired for you, which I would rather not do.) Do you happen to know if this is difficult or what exactly is involved in wiring it?

I understand that and if it is the case you would be better of with a dimmer switch http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...-WH&lpage=none to temporarily control your temps until you can invest in a more reliable thermostat.

It's not that hard but if you are not confident enough to do it yourself you should have it wired.
Trust me it is a good investment, much better than the one that you are thinking about buying.
I have several of those and they are VERY reliable.

I have 6 rancos running in my snake room and all came from Reptile Basics. I have had them for about a 1.5 years with no problems. I highly recommend them.
Check here for wiring instructions

OK no more funny business. I am going ahead and ordering the Rancos because in my experience, in reptile keeping, when you buy something "cheap" you end up paying way more later when you have to replace it. Gonna have to break the bank, but my guys are worth it, and plus my ball hates me right now because her humidity is way too low. Corn doesn't *seem* to care but I'd rather he be happy and healthy.
Thanks guys for the advice.
Oh, and I decided to break the bank even MORE and get pre-wired, because wiring stuff scares me....
Chef boyardee for the next 4 months for me.
