Adult Beardie

I just adopted a male beardie that is about a yr old and have a few quick questions. I have never had an adult just my baby that is about 6 months old. How often do I need to feed live insects? I was told he was 12crix a week but yesterday he ate that easily in one sitting. I know the fresh greens and such is not an issue and he is drinking and soaking himself in his dish daily. Just clueless on the live food thing.

Adults don't eat like babies and may not eat everyday. This will change throughout the year and during winter sleep/brumation may not eat for weeks, i have seen months.

The best thing is to get to know your guy. Try every day but if he refuses try every other day until you get a feel for him. Some of my adults will eat 2-3 times a week, after brumation they will wake up hungry and thristy and then want to breed. If he doesn't eat the crickets make sure you leave a carrot for them or they will bother the beardie. When mine don't eat I put a tube in the enclosure(paper towel tube will do) so the crickets will hide in there and then I can take them out if I want and house separately untill I feed again.

I came home from AZ with him Sunday night and he slept the whole way home then Monday he was running around and hyper eating like crazy. Today though he hasn't really eaten the greens and only a few silkworms. I totally forgot about burmation so could he be going through it now even though I just moved him from AZ to NV?

it is possible, i have seen them go through brumation at different times of the year.

Most my dragons are awake now but they have been down a couple months..
They also have a relocation period sometimes its harder with adults. The last adult I got she wouldn’t eat for a month and a half..
As for my 5 adults they get live feeders 2 to 3 times a week. I have one dragon that gets feeders once a week otherwise she wont eat her salad at all..
For crickets they say that averages to about 50 per week..

Im switching her over to supers for a staple cuz I absolutly hate crix and dealing with them lol. She eats the live feeders without a hitch but getting her to eat greens is like pulling teeth. I have hid the worms in the greens and she waits for them to wiglgle out...doesn't even bother to dig just sits and waits. I have tried fruit and she wont touch that either. Have given collard, mustard, dandilion, endive, escorle, turnip. Could she be holding out for the romain lettuce they used to give her? I don't want her to eat that since there is no value to it.

I thought it was iceburg lettuce that had no nutritional value. Isn't romaine supposed to be good for them?

Romaine is an ok treat but not something u want to feed all the time as a staple or the only thing. I got her eating collard greens today when I added a second light to her tank.

the limit for adult beardies insects is 50 crickets a week or 30 superworms.much more than that and they have a big chance of getting fatty liver disease.you can feed the crickets in one feeding or spread them out.the supers definitly need to be spread out more.i feed insects every other day and i switch from 10 to 15 crickets and 5 supers.it works pretty good

You are correct, Iceburg lettuce is full of water.
