Yes...they are much happier when out of their enclosures. Boas are very social snakes, IMO.

I tend to agree. As long as he's eating fine and not freaking out on you, I think he'd probably enjoy it... and it will go a long way towards making him a gentle, well-mannered 5'-6' snake someday

Re: holding them *too* much?
thanks to the both of you! we definetly want a nice well mannered snake.. my husband wouldnt tollerate anything less. so far he seems to really enjoy all the attention i just wanted to make sure it couldnt harm him, i know balls are different and they are perfectly happy hanging out in their bins lol.. my spider ball is a curious little booger but the other balls would just rather relax, i love that i have jaxson and impala who seem to enjoy the interaction. thanks again!

I'd skip a day after feeding but other than that, as long as he is not cold and continues his normal activities in the enclosure, it would seem okay to me.

Ive noticed how much more social my boa is too. All my balls sit still or curl up when I open there tubs but when I open my boas cage he comes right out to me most of the time and absolutely HATES going back in.
In the end, we will all die alone

Hehe, yep, hate coming out, hate going back in...Carmen is very "grippy" when she is first out, but once she settles into a comfy position (for her, not always for me), I think she'd be content to stay put as long as I would let her. =)
0.1 ball python (Cleo), 0.1 surinam bcc (Carmen)
1.0 sunglow motley corn (Jenson), 1.0 albino burmese (Lourdes)
1.0 cat (Nicky), some mooses and ratters, 1.0 hubby (Rick)

Re: holding them *too* much?
My boa loves to come out and explore. I handle him almost every night, except for Feeding day, and two days after. He goes everywhere, and really takes a liking to Shaun cause he is always warm. Now my ball, holy cow, he finds my largest pocket in my sweatshirt, or my hood, and curls up and never moves.
I too have trouble getting my boa back into his enclosure. He wraps himself around everything possible on the way in. He is only a little guy too, its gonna be fun wrestling him back in when he is 5 or 6 ft

See, my BP and all that I've had before are the exact opposite of the way you just described yours. They were always active and "social," constantly exploring, and every time I go to put mine away, he wraps himself around my arm. When I do finally get him off of me, he's up the side of his enclosure trying to make an escape. There are certain times where he'll just sit. Sometimes in the summer on nice hot days, I'll go sit in the shade and rest him on my chest and he'll just sit there. He's such a great animal. Couldn't ask for a better pet
