Would it be all that hard?

Would it be hard to find breeding size/age ball pythons for a decent price? Ok for example. Say I wanted to breed the snakes this fall, would the female need to be at least an '06? And say I wanted her to be a co-dom individual like a Pastel. Would an '06 Pastel female cost a lot of money? I was just about to go searching but I want to hear a few replies from here as well. If I continue to get '07s and also get '08s this summer then I'll have to wait till '09 for my first breeding season. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm willing to wait that long especially since I don't want to rush my snakes. I want to make sure they are healthy, but if there is a chance I can get my hands on a healthy up-to-weight pastel female, that would be nice. And how large to males have to be to breed? I have an '07 pastel male. He is only around 250g right now but he's starting to pack on the weight, especially since I upped his prey size a bit.

    So any thoughts on this?

Actually, I guess if I had a pastel male, I could just go with a normal female and hope for some pretty pastels. *goes off to look for a normal female*

yea you want an 06 female atleast, the rule of thumb is 500g for males and 1500g for females.

I could defiantly get my pastel male up to 500 by this fall. Actually he'd probably be way more than that. I've been looking on the breeders' sites and I'm not seeing any '06 females available. Arg!

Re: Would it be all that hard?

generally speaking these days an adult animal costs about the same as it did when it was a baby.

Example: to buy an '06 pastel female, pay what that female cost as a hatchling back in '06...

Re: Would it be all that hard?

Well this female wouldn't have to be a Pastel. It would be nice but since I have a Pastel male, a normal female would be fine. But of course, all females that I'm seeing available are either expensive morphs or '07 females.

Re: Would it be all that hard?

Adults are showing up on fauna right now. there is an ad over there with a guy selling off his albino breeding group. They all have breed with an albino this year. They could be gravid and they might not be gravid. But they are ready to breed no matter what.

Check out the classifieds. People sell sub adult females around 1000 grams a lot. adn IMO once they hit 1000 grams they just pack on wieght.
