    Dumeril Boas....

I have read that Dumerils boas used to be a very popular snake... I was wondering why the decline in popularity among snake keepers. I just love these snakes! I would keep a ton of them if I had the space. I just think they are beautiful.

I know there have been some issues with genetics due to not being able to get new bloodlines into the country, is this the main reason?

    Re: Dumeril Boas....

I'm not 100% sure, but I'd bet it has to do something with that. Also, there isn't any "morphs" within them. The gestation period is quite abit longer too, 140 days compared to most other boas of about 100-105 days. The litters are much smaller too. Not worth as much, which is dumb IMO cause they are awesome boas, lol. I have a nice trio that I've been raising up since 2005 and they should be breedable this upcoming next season (2008-2009) and I'm pretty excited about it too!

I didn't think of the morph factor. Well who wants morphs anyway!! Just kidding. I still like them a whole bunch though and will be picking up a second one in a few days with any luck.

Good Luck with your breeding plans Jim and you with your lil guy Ophiuchus.

    Re: Dumeril Boas....

I saw a baby one at this weekend's Toronto expo...and almost picked him up! They're beautiful and they've got me looking forward to getting a baby female when one is available! Going to keep my eye out in the upcoming Toronto expos...and going to be sure I arrive early when they open, haha!
