Display lizard or frogs... Suggestions?
Wasn't sure to go with the lizard or amphibians section... But so far the choices I'm going on are:
African Fat Tailed Gecko
Australian Velvet Gecko
Crested Gecko
Giant Day Gecko
OR.... some various green/white tree frogs and fire salamanders
I'm leaning toward the frog route I believe because Ideally I want to set up a large false bottom Display Viv similar to this method, and I'm almost afraid that a lizard might drown even with only 1-2" deep water.
Maintenance aside, because I am quite aware that maintaining a display tank takes a lot more effort, and my talent for killing every plant species other than our one cactus aside, I'm prepared for that challenge...
I'm more wondering what the pros and cons of each are, or if anyone knows of any other species that do well in high humidity environments as I'm trying to focus primarily on species requiring a very high humidity but I don't want a water dragon as they do get a bit too large (I don't want anything that requires a 6' long enclosure) even though I love the look and personality.
Things I do not want: species known to be intolerant, the tokay that would bite the second you put your hand in to change the water and the entire time you handled it was enough for me. I'd rather go with something that will at least tolerate being moved around to clean.
All suggestions greatly appreciated!

Thanks. I don't really care if I can "play" with it, just that it's not going to attack me when I try to change out water.
I'm actually leaning toward some tree frogs.

Yes, but how likely would they be to drown with a small pool about 2-3" deep?

you took the words right out of my mouth... tiger leg frogs especially are both hardy and interesting.
