Arrow Swiss Webster mice and other Lab strains known for larger litter

Anyone have experience with the Swiss Webster strain of mice or another lab strain that produces large numbers of babies? Are they difficult to find? I wouldn''t even know where to look for a mouse except pet stores, but from the literature I've found, they seem to be worth the trouble. Any comments from experience would be greatly appreciated! Take care!

The only supplier I know off hand is Harlan Teklad. I was looking into some common rats (Sprauge Dawley), they were about $10 a piece, nothing special. Albino, produce about 9 in a litter, outcrossed.

You should check out Harlan's website, they have a few different strains of rats, and I assume they would also have some commonly used mice strains. Just understand you could end up paying a lot for these mice compared to petstores.

Thanks alot! From what I see it looks like only labs can order animals from them. I know I can't directly order their food or supplies. I'll probably just stick to normal mice. lol!

Swiss Webster mice are very nice to work with but you will soon find yourself with too many mice. I had to cut back my colonies.

Harlan will sell you "leftover" rats and mice that would otherwise sell live or frozen to some of our friendly frozen dealers....but it may take several phone calls to get yourself to that point and they now have a $1000 minimum so I am not sure how that would apply to trying to get rats and mice.

I don't know if the $1000 would apply towards left overs. You may just have to sweet talk them

Hmm... I don't know if you have to be a lab to order. Doesnt look like it says that anywhere. Says they need a credit card though!

Re: Swiss Webster mice and other Lab strains known for larger litter

I was king of hoping someone knew somewhere to pick them up near NJ. I'm not going to hassle them for their prized mice lol! I figured that breeding less mice and making more babies has got save some money. Plus if the mom is making more babies I imagine shes probably bigger than regular retired breeders. Just makes sense to me. I'll keep working with the mice I have for now and if anyone knows where to grab some extra swiss webstters...POST IT UP!!
