Does Vanilla Extract ruin rack watering systems?

Anyone know the answer to this question and if so any other suggestions for preventing mouse odor or preventing the vanilla from ruining my new rack. Thanks guys!

After awhile it can gunk stuff up.. just clean the watering system periodically and it's fine.

Any suggestions on how to clean out the watering system, I really don't like the idea of letting them drink bleach and then feeding them to expensive snakes. How often would it need to be cleaned under good maintance? Thanks Shelby!

I only used the vanilla for a short time.. but when it got gunky I just unhooked the bucket and scrubbed it down with chlorhexadine solution. I haven't had trouble with the plastic tubing gunking up, I'm not sure how you'd clean that out.. perhaps soak it in hot soapy water and rinse it through.

Re: Does Vanilla Extract ruin rack watering systems?

Thanks Shelby. It seems like it's going to cause more problems than it's worth. I'm sureyou stopped using it with good reason. I'll just leave the rack on regular water and I'll vanilla up the babies in the grow out tank to fight some of the smell. For now I'm just going to try the baking soda and see how that works. FYI-first night in the new rack with baking soda, Mice=already smell a little! ASF rats= no smell what so ever! I hope I can switch to them ASAP! lol Thanks again!

Yeah I didn't like how gunky it got with the vanilla.. though it did help with the smell. I may try it again someday.
