Talking Vanilla extract to mice and ASF rats?

Anyone know or have experience using vanilla extract to reduce the odor from mice? Does anyone know if it has any neggative side effects? Will it ruin my gravity reservoir rack watering system? (sticky?) How about any experiences with African Soft Furred Rats? Thanks for any help!

Do a search. There are several threads about this already.

I used it with mice. It helps a little on the smell but nothing significant when dealing with mice.

    Use baking soda.

Just sprinkle some on the bottom of the cage. Works wonders

I did search around the forums. Nothing too definitive as far as whether it causes damage to the rack watering system(soft black tubng). And nothing on whether it is safe to give it to ASF rats. I was just seeing if anyone had some updates, new info. Thanks!

Baking soda is a good idea. I'm going to start with that until I find out more about the vanilla and rack systems. Thanks!

I tried Vanilla in my rack system... it was the only time I had a part of the system clog. Might be coincidence? But I opted to not use it just in case...

Re: Vanilla extract to mice and ASF rats?

Ya snakeman, obviously I'm well aware of my other posts, one was pertaining to the rack system and one was health related pertaining to the ASF rats and mice, as well as it's effectiveness. Not everyone checks every forum, was just hoping to get more than one persons advice. I'm sure April knows what she's talking about, but I don't know her anymore than anyone else on the thread which is not at all, so I'd like to hear form others. Sorry to upset you, was I using too much thread space? Thanks Laooda, thats the kind of story I was hoping not to hear, but I'm glad I did. And thanks Wolves, I agree I don't plan to give it to them in their grow-up tanks, but in the rack system they get the same water as the mice, which are on a different level of the same rack. Thanks for all the help guys.
