    A club!

We should start a breeding club! Find out who lives around you and set up "mating arangements" The Stud gets the pick of the litter.... or whatever. Any thoughts???

I may not have a whole lot to offer... but i do have two lovely lady Balls, that will want a boyfriend in a little bit... (like a spider)

And I do have what is apparently "one of the biggest corns around"

I also have an Arizona Mountain Kingsnake male that has PERFECT patern, and unbelievable red patches over his eyes (have to get a good pic!)

Come on ya'll!!! Lets make a deal!

    Re: A club!

Breeding contracts are very detailed, to include the cost of replacing the loaned animal should it die during the breeding loan, figuring out who pays vet bills, how the hatchlings are split, etc.

It's not a matter of "studding out" a male, as the loaned animal needs to be quarantined for a period of time before it's ever introduced to the females. Not many people are willing to let their males be gone for that long.

On the flip side, if the females go to the breeder, they also have to be QT'd, stay at the breeder's facility until after she lays her eggs, etc.

While in theory it sounds like a great idea, there's a lot more logistics that goes into breeding loans and you'll find when you talk to many of the breeders, most are not fans of breeding loans. You really have to trust the person you're entering the contract with to expose your animals to theirs, not to mention the complexities of interpersonal relationships.

Now, where's the "rain on parade" smiley?

That's not to see you can't find someone to enter into a breeder loan contract with. It involves a lot of planning and work, but they are done. I have 3 big females on loan at my condo and breeding with my mojave as we speak. I've had them for over 2 months in quarantine and had them all checked out by a vet. Last week was the first introduction by my mojave and I'll probably be holding them into the summer.
What are these mojavas I keep hearing so much about?

    Re: A club!

When Mike and I had a breeding contract with Gene, it was a good 2 pages long and heck we like and trust the guy! LOL

Lots of stuff can go wrong with breeding loans. Contracts work for some folks so everyone understands what's what and there's less room for misunderstanding down the road. I'm the type that thinks that spelling out stuff is best and assumptions will end up likely giving you problems. It's a complicated decision to "stud" out a snake or send your precious female to someone else for months.
