WARNING! courtesy of local petstore cashier
So, I was in the local PetSmartCo, and picked up some new female rats - 3 rex and 1 dumbo. They were all housed together in the store and I had the clerk put them all in the same box. Got to the cash register, and the cashier asked if the dumbo was in the box with the rexes. I told him "yes, it is." He said "You might want to separate them as soon as possible. They'll fight and kill each other."
Wow. I never knew that dumbos and rexes had it in for each other! Good thing he told me, I had planned on keeping them together. Which reminds me, I need to check all my cages to be sure that I don't have any other dumbos and rexes housed together!?!?!?!?
I'm left wondering if its because curly haired rats don't like big eared rats, or the other way around?

P.S. I considered playing dumb... giving the type of response demonstrated above. But, me being me, I told him that no, dumbos and rexes do NOT have a problem getting along. I seriously doubt that they even recognize a difference! Yes, new introductions can cause some fighting while the rats establish their heirarchy, but once thats settled, they should be fine. AND, these were already housed together, so they're ALREADY fine!!! Not sure he believed me.
