Money Orders?
Ok, so for my first tiem ever, I'm buying a snake using a money order. I've always just founf breeders close to me, but I found a girl that really caught my eye, so here I am.
The thing is, I've never done a moonney order before... I've got my adress on it, and I've got the persons name that I'm getting the snake from..Do I need anything else? Like the snakes ID number or anything?
I feel dumb- but Id rather ask and know it's correct then just guess and be wrong.

Re: Money Orders?
isnt there a spot for notes or something like that? I dont think its neccesary though, if the breeder knows who you are, and what you want
but a lot of scams happen with MO's thats why CL says not to use them

Wel, theres just a line for the "purchaser's address", which is mine, then where I have her nsame.. And now that I'm really looking, there is a part that says "Payment for/acct.#" and I think that I put the snakes ID there- or something... I didnt notice that before- green blends in with green very well, and I'm bling anyway. lol.

Re: Money Orders?
A good sign that it's not a good deal is when they only take money orders. Paypal is okay, but we got screwed earlier this year by Paypal, they agreed that we were scammed by the seller, but they couldnt give us our money back. So we filed with the credit card company and got our money back that way. It was a hefty sum too.
I don't like money orders, so I like to use bank checks instead, since sometimes people wont accept personal checks.
Hope everything goes smoothly and quick! What cha getting btw??

Re: Money Orders?
It's not usually the person sending the MO that is told to beware. It's the person recieving it.
The MO scams are usually that a person gets a fake MO as payment for something, by the time it clears the bank many people already shipped and so when it comes back as fake they've now lost their animal and the price of a 'bounced' money order. Same scam has happened in the horse world (heck, you can't get anything without cash in the equine area anymore though the market is so bad people are dumping horses on the side of the road) and the dog and cat world.
Lil, there have been tons of cases where fraudulent bank checks were used, more so then even fake MOs.

Wow, I didnt even know people could make fake MO's. But yea, she does do more types of payment then Mo's, thats just what I picked because I don't have a credit card- trying to stay away from that- and dont have a paypal account.
As for what I'm getting, it's just a pretty normal that I looked at and though, "Ohhh... She could make some pretty babies with my pastel.." lol. And of course, not untill after a QT- but still, she's pretty and it doesnt hurt to have a few normal girls around

Re: Money Orders?
Man, no personal checks, no back checks, no money orders, can't send cash through the mail. How the heck are we supposed to do any business without credit cards or w/o paypal????
Entropy, I never thought about it that way, I have only ever heard to watch out for people that only accept money orders or western union kind of thing. I wouldn't have thought about the seller get screwed that way. Great points!
This folks, is a good reason why you should always clear the check FIRST lol.

Don't shy away from credit cards!
As a young person myself, I can safely say that getting a credit card now is essential for building your credit for later in life.
I was there too, I thought of a credit card as a big trap, but in reality, you may only get a max limit of $800 now, and just having a credit card and using it will start to build your credit, making it easier for you to get a loan for a new car, house, credit extensions etc.
I recommend buying the book "The young, the fabulous, and the broke" by Suze Orman. It's a Fantastic read, and she will convince you that getting a credit card is the best financial move you can make at this point in your life. (Plus, tons of other awesome wisdom)
Having a good ratio of debt to amount of credit will get you where you need to be. It takes common sense and control to be financially responsible.
(disclaimer: don't go crazy and max it out in one go, then not pay it off. That's bad. )
