Cool New Ball Python Home Under Construction

Hello everyone. I’m new to this part of Ball-pythons.net so I’ll introduce myself. My name is Sean and I am a 19 year old student at Georgia Southern University. I currently have two ball python’s one normal male and one pastel male. Now, I know that I have two dude snakes... I didn’t have my normal, Mr. snakey, sexed until after I acquired Mojo the pastel. haha ohwell.

Up to date, I have been keeping my snakes in a rack Rubbermaid tub setup with a rheostat and flexwatt. See attached picture.

Now my guys have just about outgrown their enclosure. So I am building them a new home. Hopefully it will be their last too. These things always seem to cost so much money!

The following pictures show my current progress. The dimensions are 24"x27.75"x10.5". Construction is of 1x2's, 1x4's, and 1/4" plywood rather than the typical particle board to save weight.( I have to take the guys home over break and during the summer. )

For heat, I have a Helix thermostat and flexwatt on the way. I am still trying to find a flooring material. I have read that vinyl or glass works well. However, I think I will try some coroplast or corrugated plastic that I have lying around. Then I have some varnish that I plan to use to poo and pee proof the cages.

I will be posting more as I progress and I’m always open to suggestions and words of wisdom!

    Thanks,
    Sean

    Finished

    Hey everybody,

I have completed my project since the last post. I have been rushing to get these done so that I can take my snakes back to school in them. So I crammed most of the construction in the wee hours of the past two nights.

The following picture shows the final internal structure. The white stuff you see there is Depron foam that I used as insulation.

The next picture shows the completion of the interior and the addition of the cage tops. The interior is lined with the 2mm black coroplast that I said I would try. For the record, great stuff, completely water proof and aesthetically pleasing. I also, have 12" lights mounted inside to allow night viewing.

These last two pictures are of the finished product.

Plexiglas fronts that slide in and out from the right.

There I am in the reflection!
