visual vs. hets

hey guys\girls im still new to the BP world but im emailing with adam from 8ball nice guy but he was asking me some questions that im not sure what the answer should be like this one VISUAL VS. HETS i think i know what the difference is but could you explaine it to me in dummy terms please

visuals are homozygous for the trait. Het means the snake is heterozygous for the trait. Hope it helps! Can't go wrong with an 8 ball!

If we were to talk about a Recessive trait, say Albino, Visual (i.e. Homozygous) would be an Albino. A Heterozygous (i.e. Het) would look like a normal Ball Python, however, it would carry the gene for Albinism. Meaning that you could breed it with another Het andthey are capable of producing Albinos.

Now for the best genetics explanation online, here's another site. I'll warn you it's a lot more complex and you'll learn more about a punnet square than you thought you'd ever want to know, but it's an amazing site. For this one you need lots of time, a pencil and paper and don't expect to understand it on the first read through (I still go back and study it all the time...thanks Kara...no one is doing my laundry you know while I'm sorting out punnet squares LOL).

You should though go to the New England site first at least to read over the Basic Vocabulary page. It really helps to understand all the terminology you'll come across.

Incorrect. Homozygous means it has 2 alleles(1 from each parent). The heterozygous term is used for recessive traits, that require 2 alleles to show the visual. Co-dom/Dom you only need one allele to have a visual and when you get a homozygous co-dom you get "Supers" ie Super Pastel(has 2 pastel genes).
