    Mexico border?

I have someone in the area interested in one of my males for sale. He's an adult and I've had him for over a year now, a real sweetheart. After talking with him for a bit though, he says he's moving to Mexico and wants to take it with him. This worries me. Does custom allow you to take snakes with you across the border?

    Re: Mexico border?

Hmm, I remember the 'No fruits or veggies' signs all over the place... but animals I'm not sure of. I would imagine he would have to get major permits and such from customs. The best way to know would be to call someone in customs for the section of the border he'd be going over.

Also, you might tell him to be very wary of owning reptiles in Mexico... There are very few places that will care for such creatures, since pet stores are practically nonexistent, and vets that might cater to exotics are really rare and quite expensive. A pet out there is something you picked up off the street or out of the desert (or jungle depending on how far south you are).

I'm typing up what my BF is telling me, BTW, since he's half Mexican and lived there for 18 or so years.

Ah, thanks a lot. I think I'll pass on the sale, I'd rather him go to someone in the states with more ready access to good vets and easier feeder access.

    Re: Mexico border?

Hi Nagini, As far as I know you cant legally cross the border with a reptile unless you export it. Beside this, although I live in Mexicali, just in the border with california my imported pythons traveled first from usa to Mexico City to be inspected by the mexican wildlife customs and then shipped to my place. The tramit is long, very complicated and incredible expensive...

    Re: Mexico border?

Hmm Thanks for the insite. Its good to know since sometime down the road when I have the room for two separate snake rooms and an additonal quarentine one I'd like to get more into imports. Thanks a lot you two.

    Re: Mexico border?

No problem. And he thought it would be something like that export thing, he just wasn't sure. Thanks, nahual, for clarifying that.
