    corn shedding...

hey i got a baby corn from petco a month ago and hes doing great. he ate last night, defecated and started to shed all in one night. is this normal? its just flaking off because i didnt bring the humidity up as i had no idea he was shedding. should raising humidity help the shed? also, i have no idea if its a he or a she... how can i determine this?

everything happening is normal...the only thing is is that the shed shouldnt flake off...what is your temp and humidity at??? i would recommend giving him a short soak in luke warm water to get it off...the only way to determine sex with a high success rate is to have it probed by someone who has experience before you try...do you know anyone locally to do that??? or the vet could do it but they will probably charge you

Great to hear its eating and shedding well for you .If you spray the enclosure a bit it will help him shed easier next time.

well i gave him a couple soaks in luke warm water and that helped. Do corns generally start flipping out when they are partially submerged? i came checked in after school and the rest of his shed was in one peice in a ball scrunched up haha. is this normal as well?

    Re: corn shedding...

alright one last question.... im leaving to go out of state for about 4 days. how can i keep the humidity up for 4 days? I have 2 heat lamps, a sunlight one and a red one. should i leave the red one on the whole time? the temp is at 82 right now and humidity is 40. are these ok for a baby corn? im really concerned about leaving for 4 days. there is somebody "cat-sitting" while we're gone and he can check on the snake but he doesn't know anything about caring for snakes....

I'd leave the red light on at all times while your gone. To much of the white light will screw up their system, meaning, stress them out, because of the constant light. As for the humidity, corns can live with lower humidity, so I wouldn't be too worried, unless he's about to shed again.
