Never Under estimate a 3 yr old

My burmese pythons snake is at least 4 feet off the ground with stand and tank combined with a lid on it so she can't get out on her own. She snuck out so I thought once before but I'm not sure anymore lol. Luckly that time I found her curled up by my dvd player so she never made it far.

Well 4 days ago she went missing again and this is with a bunch of stuff on top of the cage to make sure she wasn't getting out again since the first time I never found out how she did. I looked behind my big screen tv to see a perfect shed so yay for that but no sign of her other then that. It's been 4 days and im destroying my house again for the 3rd time since shes missing to find her. My owe so innocent 3 yr old comes up and says "mommy I held your snake 4 days aog and she go behind tv". I just look at her and ask her to repeat and she says the same thing. Tottaly dumbfounded how a less then 3ft little girl got her out I aks her to show me how she held the snake and sure enough she was able to reach in and grab her if she wanted to.

We had another snake in this same cage not to long ago that moved to a different cage and she never messed with it so I had no clue while I was sleeping she was trying to play. I locked all the other cages and moved eveyrthing in with me since she sleeps on couch and hates her room. Now just to find this girl so I knwo shes safe. I have looked everywhere but inside my couch and tv since I have clue if she could even get in there. I am so mad at myself for under estimating my daughter and now missing my baby. I'm thinking of just leaving a mouse (f/t) on a heat pad kinda so that it stays warm to draw her out but im not sure if that will work cuz she wont attack anything not twitching. I have already moved all the appliances and gone through every single box or container in the house. I just want her back and safe.

Please do us all a favor. In the morning go find a way to secure the tops of the cage so no one else can get access to that snake .If the wrong people were to read this or hear this they could turn you into child protective services.I am not saying anyone here would but every day people are looking for mistakes to ban all reptiles being kept in our homes.I would deem this as a perfect "mistake" .I hope you find her ASAP

Burms and small kids, sounds like you do need to review your safety procedures and cage security.

We're in the process of adopting our biggest snake yet, an 8 foot female boa. She won't get of course as large as your Burm will but with an active 6 year old in the house plus teenagers we've decided on a number of security devices. Her enclosure is a custom built deal and features two locks plus a wireless door alarm as shown in this link (item #04-101).

For $10 I'll have the peace of mind knowing I'll hear an alarm if any of the kids manage to get her door open. It may be overkill to some folks but for me, I think safety and bigger snakes just can't every be "too much".

I hope you find this snake soon.

I've moved all the cages into a walk in closet away from every one that I have a dead bolt on only I can get into. I have gotten locks for the cages for the just in case senierio if my daughter does find a way in the room to the snakes. Im just dumbfounded how she manged to climb up then reach over a 2ft or higher cage to grab the snake who normally hides when a hand is in the cage.

She is usually really good about wanting something and asking first but she is only a child.

Anyoen have any other places to look maybe im just spacing on? So far I've pulled otu all appliances, pulled and searched all boxes or containers or drawers, under all items with even an inch of space, inside the couchs thanx to a hole i found under the bottom, in all drawers, all closets, under the laundry pile of clothes, in side the washer and dryer for just spite, under and in cabniets. Here is a pic of about 2 months ago on my arm...she is about a foot bigger or more now but no current pics

Wow. That's a bummer that you can't find the snake. Do you have any rodent infestation - even a slight one? We get mice from time to time and I bet that might be her first place to go. Our mice come in our pantry and live in the attic.

Heaters, computer room, oven (in, behind, under, beside?), where you keep live feeders, in the snake room itself?

Good luck!!! Glad the snake was small and docile with your 3 yr old.
