    Pythons & turtles

Hi, I have a 4 foot female BP. I have had her for about 2 years now, shes been in the family for about 5 before I got her.

I recently adopted a 4- 5 inch 3 toed box turtle from my local animal shelter.

Last Friday my BP managed to destroy the lid of her tank, so I upgraded her into a 60 gallon new one. Everything is great so far, but since shes in a tank that is double the size of the previous one, I started thinking.....

    and my questions are
Can I put my 3 toed turtle in the tank with the BP?

    or

Can I have two BP's in one tank?

I wouldn't recommend housing two different species together, they each have different needs, diet, heating, etc. Also it maybe possible to spread diseases from one to another.

As for housing 2 bps together, I wouldn't recommend that either. If you use the search feature and type in cohabitation, you'll find many threads on it. Some reasons not to cohabitate are spread of disease, stress, unwanted pregnancy, cannibalism.

    Re: Pythons & turtles

I wouldent suggest housing two together- I did it for awhile and personaly mone were fine, but it's really not good. It causes too much stress. And NO- do NOT put the turtle in with the BP- not good... You will probably end up with the BP eating/trying to eat the turtle and dieing, or very sick reptiles.

But on a differnt note- your the only person Ive ever seen aside from myself that has their name spelled Jessika instead of Jessica... But do you just spell it that way or is it really spelled with a c?

I was named Jessika. my parents HAD to be different... damn 70's.

it sucked when i was young (kids used to tell me that "my parents couldnt spell") Kids are mean.

Once i hit high school, it was cooler and more accepted. I have met a Jessicah, Jesica, and Jessikah.

    Re: Pythons & turtles

I have had the turtle for 3 months now, and he has a clean bill of health.

At my local reptile store, (where i get my feeders) I asked, and they said that females are more likely to sucessfully cohabitate. But just "more sucessfully" didnt seem worth the risk. Whenever i see babies in stores they always have more than one and they seem all balled together... can they be raised together?

    Re: Pythons & turtles

Yea I know- I just reciently got rid of a male that I housed with my female, and to be honest they were always fine together... The problem was she grew alot quicker then he did, and she would crush him- even snakes of the snake size can crush eachother and break ribs.. And I was lucky- but if one of my snakes would have gotten sick, I would ave trouble knowing which one was sick, and chances are by the time I found out they would both be..

It's just over all alot safer to house them apart.
