    Snake poop questions

My bp is young, he seems very active and eats well. How often should he be pooping? I feed him once a week and I only occationally see poop. Second question, is it suppost to be black? I saw something in his tank today and I'm almost positive it is poop. But it's black. And third, almost everytime I take him out he takes a dump on me. He... pees on me. Like a lot. He hasn't peed yet this week either. Is there a regular schedule or does it depend on how often you feed him?

    Re: Snake poop questions

Every week (give or take) if you feed him ever week is the fecal schedule for a small/young BP.

    Black is fine.

As for peeing on you, it is kind of a defense mechanism. He'll grow out of it.

Okay, thanks for the help. Should I keep holding him even though I know it'll end up in a shower? I really don't like holding him for more than 5 minutes because I fear he'll take a dump.

Depending on the feeding schedule, the prey size, whether or not your BP is growing it can be anywhere from every week to once a month or a little more.

    Re: Snake poop questions

Keep handling it, if pooping makes you stop it will not get used to you and will use this mechanism as it knows it works. Snakes aren't smart but they do work out patterns. Pooping is better than biting in my book. Wear old clothes or an apron and handle it before you shower or bath. It will stop eventually once it knows it won't cause it to be put back.

Additionally as it gets bigger it will poop less often mine is 7 months only poops once every 2-3 weeks and produces urates once every 10-12 days. Also pay attention to its tail and cloaca if goes still and lifts the tip of its tail it usually means its about to pee/poo you will also see ripples move down it like its trying to move backwards. just put its back end in a container or old coffee mug and problem solved.
