Should I stick a thermostat directly on the UTH to measure temp? Or in the cage near the UTH. My set up now is...
Charlotte my Female Spider yearling in a 18qt. sterilite tub.
One side of the tub is a warm side hide. The other side is a water dish. I have a hygrometer inside that reads a constant 60% in normal conditions and around 80% when I spray the tub to up the humidity. and a thermostat on the warm side. (HAHA! I just checked the tub and she shed!!!! My first shed since getting her! and it was perfect!)
Big Daddy my Yellow Belly 2 years old roughly is also in a 18qt. sterilite tub (for now) with no hid and a water dish. And the set up is about the same.
I keep everything heated with a big UTH for Big daddy, maybe 7x10in and a smaller one for charlotte.
My house is around 69-72 degrees at any given time.
See the problem are my tub temps. I have the tubs directly on the UTH with and the thermostat reads that area of the tub at about 69* for both. And because of this I think my male may have shut down.
He gets really hissy all of a sudden when I go to inspect his tub. and he hasnt moved for a good week now. But whats the weirdest thing is how he hasnt tried to remove his shed at all. I even put a smaller hid he couldnt fit in into the tub so maybe he would rub it off... nope. I soaked him today in a pillow case with a wash cloth in it to see if it would help and he hasnt done anything. Its been close to a week. My little girl went into shed day before yesterday
after a feeding and it was off by today in one whole piece. So I know its not the climate.
So I guess my question is, what is wrong with big daddy and are my temps to low. and if so what would you advise I do to help. Also what size tub should big daddy be in.
