Question My girl has an RI

I believe my Lilly is sick I'm going to call the vet tomorrow and try to set up an appointment for Saturday (or tomorrow....but I'm assuming that's not going to happen).

I do have a few questions. I have been reading other threads on here about RI's, and I know to bump up the temp until I can get her to the vet, but I was wondering how quickly an RI will progress. I couldn't seem to find any sort of time line in any other the other threads I saw. I'm wondering b/c next week is finals week, and if I can't get her in Saturday, it will have to wait until the 14 =/

My friends said that they heard her clicking a bit a few weeks ago, but she was about to shed so I let it go. Then last week someone else said something about her clicking a bit when she breathed (there are a lot of sounds that I can't hear, so I can't actually listen for it myself). Tonight when I picked her up she drooled on me a bit. I've seen another post where someone thought their snake had taken a drink right before they picked them up b/c they drooled water on them. That's what I would have thought it was if I didn't know better. It was just very thin and completely clear. I didn't see any bubbles, and the little ways that I could open her mouth I didn't see anything either. I know I need to get her in to a vet as soon as I can, but I'm just not sure how quickly these things progress into something *really* bad.

Also, I have to go home around the 20th. It's a 5 hour drive, and I need to take Lilly with me (b/c of room checks over the break, and I don't want to leave her alone for that long). I don't know if she will still be on medication by then, but if she is, will the stress of the trip mess anything up? I don't want to undo anything by stressing her out, but I can't really get around taking her with me.

Sorry it's so long....I know I tend to ramble

Shannon RI's are tricky things some animals progress very slowly and some will get hit with it very quickly. it depends on the stress level, environment, and over all health of the animal as to how fast it will progress

These sound like the first signs of an RI to me.

Yea this is a sign that it has progressed further

If you get her on meds and do it every 48 hours she should if it is a typical RI be almost clear of it by the 20th.

Yay! I called and I'm going to take her to the vet here in a few hours. I didn't actually think I'd be able to get her in today.

Thanks! I know it's stressful to move them, and this is probably the worst timing for her to get sick...I don't have much time then she's going to have to go on a road trip with me to go home. Once I started thinking about it, I started getting kinda worried about the time frame of having to travel with her. I hope I can get her well before then!

Re: My girl has an RI

Yay! So I took her to the vet (who was awesome!) and he gave me Baytril (22.7mg) and I'm giving her .5ml every 48 hours.

He also gave me Amikacin (250 mg) that I'm supposed to give her .01ml every 72 hours. I asked him what it was b/c I hadn't ever heard of it before, and he said it's a pretty strong antibiotic. Has anyone else ever used it before? I trust him, I'm just curious as to how often it's used elsewhere.

Also, before I told him I was ok with giving shots he had said he was going to give me a topical medicine with a penitrator in it. From what he said I would just apply it to her skin, and the penitrator would help carry the medicine where it should go. I forget what the medicine was called, I'm going to find out tomorrow so I can find out a bit more about it, but that was something else that I was curious as to how many people have used that before...it just doesn't seem like it would be as effective as the shots.
