    Females humping

Last night I caught one of my females chasing her room mate around and humping her. I immediately assumed that "she" was a he, but I grabbed her and they are both females. Has anyone seen that before? Is she just showing dominance?
What are these mojavas I keep hearing so much about?

    It's her showing her dominance.
I have noticed that when i introduce females to their mother, she will make sure to hunt them down specifically and hump them. The one in particular is a very "alpha" rat, and she only singled out her own daughters. She is by far the largest female weighing in close to 400 grams, but she never bothered anyone else. I dont know if that is true for all rats, just what happened in my colony.

No, it's true for others. My pair of girls were always chasing each other and jumping on. Females can also sense when another rat is in heat. It may be a dominance thing, but I have witnessed both in a pair doing it alternately.

That reminds me of how young rats play, by trying to get eachothers back. It's why rats are so sentsitive to being touched on the back. They play like that when young, jumping all over eachothers back. I just assume as they get older it turns into a dominance move.

    Re: Females humping

I saw some in my holdback tank doing the same thing the other day, and my first reaction was the same as yours: Oops! There's a c*ck in the henhouse!

I immediately pulled them, and nope, they're still all girls. 8 weeks now I think, so hopefully they'll be going into action to get some of the real thing soon!

I wish the filters had the ability to take words in context, rather than just filtering them willy nilly,,,
