Leftover foods
Currently we have three mice. We feed them Becky's Mix and Lab blocks. I was thinking of adding things to their diet since we often have leftovers when we make food for ourselves or our other animals.
We are vegan but we still have to buy eggs and chicken baby food for the sugar gliders. Since we only use one egg every 10 days, we won't be going through a dozen eggs very fast and I'm worried about eggs going bad before we can use them. I don't want anything going to waste so I was wondering if eggs can be added to a mouse's diet? If so, how much and how often? Hard-boiled or scrambled?
Also, can they have fruit? Often we will have little pieces of apple, pear, mango, banana, ect that have the peel still on it or they are too small of pieces for the gliders. Can these be given to the mice? If so, how often?

Re: Leftover foods
I think citrus is the only fruit that you dont want to give them. My rats love eggs, I think mice would too. Hard boiled or scrambled, they dont care.
I have had to watch what I give one of my males since he starts to itch when he has certain foods, and I think it's an allergy or just sensitive to fatty foods. I cant remember where I heard about that... but one of his daughter has that same problem too.

Re: Leftover foods
Is it ok to give them eggs often? It would take us over 3 months to go through a dozen eggs if we were just using them for the gliders, but what if we gave egg to the mice (we have 3 so far) once or twice a week? How much should we offer?

Re: Leftover foods
Hmm... the rats demolish an egg in one sitting, the only thing I can see adding up to bad fats is the yolk. Maybe throw that away and let them eat the whites only so you can give them an egg twice a week. They liked them fried up too, but then you would have to seperate it before you cook it. I like to give it specifically to the pregger rats, they go crazy for them, rolling them all around trying to get in. lol, its good stuff. I just dont know how much mice eat.

Re: Leftover foods
Perhaps one egg would be sufficient for the three mice. I'm actually going to go looking for non-albino females today to add to my to-be breeding group. Right now I have 1.1 in a 10g tank and we suspect the female to be preggers. The 5g tank has one female. Once she is old enough, we want to have a 1.3 group in the 10g and move the 1.1 group to the 5g. So we'll have plenty of mice eventually to eat us out of all the veggies, fruits, and eggs we have.
