Provent a Mite Qs

I just bought some Provent a Mite for my BP which came in with a few mites. I've never used it before and it says not to directly spray it on the tank, but on the substrate. But my substrate is just paper towels, so should I spray them or just go ahead and spray out the whole tank? It doesn't make sense to me why I can't spray the glass???? Anybody know or have any experience with the stuff?
Thanks in advance. I did a search on this but didn't come up with any specific threads on this particular warning on the label.

I use newspaper. Just lightly spray the enclosure with nothing in it, and allow it to completely dry (don't wipe it down). Then lay down your paper towels and replace the hides and water bowl. Then add snake. You'll be good to go!

I also use a bleach solution and soak the hide and any other item in the cage that could possibly have eggs (except the water dish) and rinse it very well, then let it dry before replacing.

Dont want to hijack your thread here, but I have a few quick Q's about PAM myself. Mainly: Does it expire or lose it's potency?

I ask because my poor little girl is all curled up in her dish nearly every night now with the dratted little black dots and I've used PAM on that cage twice before! I change everything out, disinfect it, put the bedding and hides in, spray at 12" away and let it dry...and yet each time I've done that, less than a full month later she's back in the dish! Now, since I'm getting ready to set up her new cage (which will be PAMed before setup), I haven't fully cleaned out her current tank so have not used the PAM in a while. Instead, I let her run through a cloth with Jurrasi-Mite just to give her some relief from the pests until I can get things switched with as little stress to her as possible. Weird thing is...my corns are both in the same room and haven't had a single mite.

Ok, sorry for the ramble. But anyway, is this typical for the mites to come back like that but only to one snake? Could it be as my BF guesses that my weekly trips to the reptile store are bringing the mites in, even though I make sure to change my clothes away from the room they're in? Could they be coming in on the weekly mouse I get there (which I do place in the bedroom near her cage to get her primed for feeding)?

Any and all suggestions would really help. I don't want her to keep getting those darn things all the time.

It lasts for about 30 days. In your case, I'd probably treat once every 3 weeks for 3 complete cycles. If that doesn't erradicate them, I'm not sure what will.

Have you checked the source of your bedding? Is it possible the pet store you purchase from has a mite problem that's hitch-hiking home with you?

Hmm, I'll try the every three weeks thing and see what that does, thanks.

As far as bedding, I doubt it's that because, although I get my aspen in the big bags from Petsmart (discount) I use it on ALL my animals, and only Nagini has the recurring mites. I'm also hoping that getting her out of that tank and into her new display cage (which will be PAMed when setup) will help her as well. Though I will be using the tank for my ghost corn, I will be bleaching it thoroughly and disinfecting it before setting it up for him.

If your'e not treating the bedding before putting it in, chances are, thats where the mites are coming from.

Try this: treat the cage, hide, etc again like you normally do. Don't use the aspen, use paper towels. In fact, put the aspen as far away from the enclosure as you can. I kept mine in the garage. Try it for a month and see if they come back.

I used aspen and immediately had mites. Stopped using aspen, no mites.(I wasn't treating it).

Also, clean around the enclosure as well....wipe down any surface it sits on, PAM around the cage.

just re-read your post again about only one snake getting the mites. Eggs perhaps? Weird that they keep coming back. Don't give up the fight, you'll get them!!!
