Re: Sterlite tub for my BP??

I don't really have any advice and my post is probably pointless but I started with mine in a tub. I found that keeping humidity DOWN was a problem. After I was able to get it up, I couldn't keep it below 80% for nothin. I had her in a tub for a week and transfered her to a 55 gallon tank.
I also was completely freaked out about it being a firehazard. I didn't have anything for the tub to be on so it was on the floor and the UTH catching fire was always lingering in my mind. That alone was worth the switch. I live right by the ocean though so the humidity is never below 40% in my house let alone the tanks.

Try the search function both in this section and the Housing section. There are lots of great tips!

I have all my kids in tubs, and love it.

I dont think you can search for tub because of the 4 letter limit. I tried and it popped up everything pretty much lol. I deffinately wouldnt keep it on a rug or anything, why dont you put it where the terrarium is? Make sure you use a thermostat if using a uth or heat tape on a tub, and it is a pain at first getting the right amount of holes so as to not let too much heat out but not let too much humidity build up. Will take you probably over a week of trial and error. Good luck I just got my tub's humidity right and my boy is moving in after his shed is done in a few days.

You can search "tubs" or even "baby tub" or "juvenile tub". But I'm glad you brought it up, I'll see if we can make a sticky about tub set-ups soon.

I just set up my baby pewters tub and took some good pics... 60qt tub, 2 zilla hides, water bowl and this fish tank decoration thingy for her to climb on. I will post them as soon as my gf comes home with her camera. I think youll enjoy the switch to a tub. Very easy to maintain temps/humidity.

Josh uses larger tubs with great success. Most keepers prefer a much smaller tub for babies and juvies. You'll have to read your snake to see if it's stressed by such a large enclosure and be open to going smaller for him if you choose to start as large as Josh.

I start babies in 15 quart tubs, Juvies in 20 quart and adults in 41 quart.

Re: Sterlite tub for my BP??

Our tubs are really not that much different in size Robin... The only real difference is the height. I like to provide my snakes with something to climb on so my tubs need to be taller... When you add the height you add many more quarts. The measurements of the 60qt i just bought is 22.8x16.7x13.6... Again mine need to be just a tad bit longer bc the climbing thing I add takes up more space. Once you put in 2 hides(zilla small baby hides), a decent sized water bowl(all mine are the same kind from target pet department), and the climbing thing (some fish decoration from pet co that is perfect for snakes) theres really not much room to stress the snake out. The pictures I took show every step I took to putting the tub together and I think are sticky worth... I guarantee my set ups will never "stress" a snake out due to the size being too big... My yearlings get 96qt tubs only bc the hides need to be bigger, take up more space, and dont fit in the 60qt... well I cant say they wont fit bc they will it just eliminates almost all the floor space. 96qt just gives you the floow space back.

Josh, it's great that a larger enclosure works well for you, I don't believe that I criticized yours? I said that it works for you. For others, it won't. Each keeper needs to be tuned into their animals to determine whether all that open vertical space will stress their snake or not.

Awesome idea! Seems to be a fairly popular post.
