Great idea gone down the DRAIN!

So, I had this really great idea and this SUPER great opportunity.

This guy was going to sell me 4 "Normals" for $100 + $40 s&h just because his gf wanted him to get rid of the snakes.

Well, come to find out, the father is a normal and the mother is a yellowbelly. . .so I looked @ the pics and there was these 2 really light colored "Normals" and then 2 dark colored normals. . .

    REALLY beautiful snakes. . .

Anywho. . .I was getting a loan from the bank and all was OK. . .

    UNTIL!

My bank decides to "Merge" with another bank, really just our bank taking over the other bank.

So, in the middle of this "Merge" all loans are frozen until this coming up friday!!!

The guy REALLY needed to get rid of them and I told him i'd have the money monday (when the loan was approved and supposedly gone through) and now i find out loan isnt final until friday, which puts me at a inconvenience and puts the guy at a decision. . .

    Does he
A: Hold the snakes for me (Whats an extra week anyway?)
B: Tell me too dang bad, sorry for my bad luck and sell them to someone else. . .
C: tell me im screwed and hasta la vista.

Either way, it was a good investment but I just thought I needed to rant about it for a min. Thanks for your time and reading

well if he made a deal with you, in all niceness (is this a word?) he should hold them for you. its not your fault that the bank had to hold your loan for a couple more days.

Agreed - if you have to get a loan for $100, how do you intend to pay for four separate enclosures, and all the required equipment to run them, not to mention vet bills?

My thoughts exactly. If you can't afford the $140 cost of buying the snakes, how do you expect to afford the costs of keeping them?

$140 is a lot of money, don't get my wrong... there are plenty of times when I wish I had an extra $140. But, when you're working with snakes, it's pretty minor. For snakes, especially adults, are going to eat up a lot of capital, very quickly.

Maybe offer to take the two light colored ones off his hands for half the cost?

Plain curiousity... do banks even give loans as small as $100? I worked for US Bank for six months, and don't believe they do..

Owning reptiles is a luxury that you can either afford or you can’t, if you have to get a loan from the bank to acquire 4 normal something should tell you that it is not a good idea.

How were you planning to house them, do you have 4 enclosures ready?
What if one of them get sick how will you afford the vet?

When owning a pet becomes a financial burden, than it should be re-considered.

I was wondering about the cost also...I sort of assumed it was $100 per snake. Also if it helps with your decision or lessens the pain of not taking the opportunity: There really is nothing special with these normals having a yellow belly parent, they cannot be "het for yellow belly" either they are or they are not aka co-dominant.

I think there's a whiff of tuna in the air.

No bank I know of would even make a hundred dollar loan.

Re: Great idea gone down the DRAIN!

Maybe the loan wasn't for the $140.oo. He could have been getting the loan, and would use part of it for the $140.oo cost of the snakes. Maybe the loan was for enough to get the snakes, enclosures, and some for upkeep?
Even if the loan was for more(or for something else) everyone is correct in saying to reexamine the purchase. Getting animals(even really good bargains on really cool animals) is a big deal, and you have to think ahead months and years. Can you house them, feed them, take care of them?
If you have that worked out, and you already have enclosures, and can take care of them.. there's nothing wrong with normals, and nothing wrong with dinker projects if you think you 'see' something in them.
Just be sure you've thought it through.
