I have a ball who is happy as a little clam.( eats EVERY time like a champ, poops and urinates regularly and loves her new hides ). i use reptibark for her substrate and although its great..its a pain in the rear end to clean out ( i spot clean every day if necessary but do a complete overhaul after she sheds which is about 1x a month ). i would like to switch to an eaiser substrate. i was thinking about newspaper since its cheap and easy to replace without leaving all the little dirt bits that reptibark uses. She is in a 20g L aquarium ( locking lid, etc ). i dont have a problem with the humidity right now. it stays right aorund 50-61% with the reptibark, ive used the seran wrap and tin foil method on the screen to keep it in. i wet the substrate a lot to give the necessary humidity ( it ends up damp on the hot end, i dont wet the cooler end much ).
And now for the actual question, would it even be possible to keep the necessary amount of humidity with just newspaper? Or would it be a better idea to use newspaper in conjunction with something else? ( the shreaded aspen bedding ive seen? or the reptibark ) i bump her humidity to 70 without a problem ( for shed cycles ) as well, i was just wondering about the cleaning aspect. I am located in upstate NY where we have an ambient humidity of about..20 in the winter on a good day.
