Warning: Dollar Tree Ceramic Dog Bowls

I went into Dollar Tree to pick up some nice heavy ceramic dog bowls to use as water dishes for my snakes. When I got to the check-out, the register alerted them that there was a recall on this product for containing lead and they couldn't sell it to me.

If any of you are using these dog bowls for water dishes for any of your critters, please use your best judgement!

    thanks robin

if anybody is using these, maybe try the 16oz deli cups with the 4inch plumbing couplers from Home depot, no more water spills and you can replace the deli cups!

just my little piece of change to offer!

Got a pic of the bowl?

There are different ceramic bowls being sold.... is it the one with the paw prints on them?

I don't use them, but a buddy does so I'm trying to find out which type it is.

They didn't have any of the paw print ones when I went there - they had all different patterns, and it was in the pet section.

Alrighty, I wonder if it applies to all those "Type" of ceramic dishes with the black lining?

I have seen some where the black lining breaks down from snakes sliding over them and bits and pieces of black stuff were then in the water.... tiny little particles to larger easy to see pieces. I stopped using them at that point. This was several years ago.

I'll pass on the info.... thanks!

These particular water dishes were white on the inside, and the paint was on the outside. I think the lead is actually in the ceramic glazes if I remember correctly from other news stories on ceramics.

For those who may have ceramic bowls from Dollar Tree, or any ceramic bowls that you're not sure if they have a lead glaze or not - I did some googling this evening for lead test kits. Here are a few sites:
