    Stupid pet store

Does anyone else weigh their mice/rats at the store before they buy them?

Everytime I go, I tell them what I'm looking for and they box it up. I'm pretty bad at judging size and weight so I peek at it before I buy it but weigh it when I get home.

The first time, all 5 mice were way smaller than what I wanted. Around 8g. Second time, I tell them a little bigger than last, and they give me bigger. WAY BIGGER! A 46g mouse? She's not "XL" ..she's really fat and when I showed her to the owner of this other pet store that I talk to a lot, he said she was pregnant. Nice. I guess? It's been a week and she's still just.. big.

Anyway, I brought my scale in today and the lady looked at me like I had 3 eyeballs. "Why do you need to weigh them??" Because unlike her and her 2 giant BPs that get fed pinkies, I'd rather something a little more appropriate?!

    No idea. LOL

It wasn't a Petco or anything..

I'd guess ma and pa. It's such a bad place. After I take leave I'm definitely ordering frozen so I don't have to go there anymore. I just contribute to their garbage.

    Re: Stupid pet store

I have the same exact problem with my petstore feeders I always end up having to buy two mice because one isn't big enough - and they just doubled their feeder prices. Luckily there's another petstore near me but it's a bit farther. I'd love to buy frozen but my mom can't stand the thought of mice in the freezer.

    Hi,

Would you have somewhere to keep a second small freezer just for snake food if you found one on craigslist or freecycle or similar?

    Re: Stupid pet store

I don't weigh them at the store, but I do weigh them before I feed them. I try to get my BP's about 20g of food per 500g of weigh or so (maxed at 60g), and don't feed anything less than 15g to even my smallest (250g) BP. I also weigh them before I euthenize the ones I'm breeding, and if they're not at 20g they go back in the bin...

Ah I didn't think about that. I'd have plenty of space. Hopefully there's something on craigslist. Thanks
