Article in current Reptiles magazine: genetic tinkering

Anyone get Reptiles magazine? did you see the article about genetic tinkering? In a nut shell it is refering to geneticaly changing the colors of herps like they have been doing with some tropical fish in Asia, like making them florescent. the example they used was a pied ball python but the white would be bright blue. Personally i dont think that this should be done and messing with genetics is a slippery slope.

I think this could be a great opportunity to learn more about our snakes. Sorry, but the slippery slope argument isn't a good one. What are you afraid of? A lot of great things have come from gmo's, and you can learn a lot about an animal in the process. There was another thread recently about "gene testing" of the BP's to determine their makeup...this could be that research window into it! If they know how to make a pied blue, then they know the gene that makes a pied, pied...then it's a simple test.
