    Totally confused

OK, I bought cheap thermostat b4 i knew and now I want to get a good one. I see many of them run more than one device, how is this possible since u want different temps for different devices? Do they come with more than one probe? The one I bought came from big apple herp and it said it worked on multiple devices but it only had one plug in and one therm?

well they do all work with multiple devices, they usually have multiple outlets supplied to meet this.

Note: for it to work properly, you must only have heating sources of the same wattage plug into it.

The multiple sources of heat work for the SINGLE setting you put the thermostat to. The thermostat will supply enough power to keep it around that temp if its a good one, otherwise, you're on your own, and are either better off getting a rheostat or a better thermostat.

I have a Rheostat for now, because I dont have the money for a higher grade thermostat, and it works fine. A little more manual labor never hurt anyone.

I have plugged into it an UTH, and a heat lamp, though the heat lamp is only used to raise the ambient temp of the tank if it gets a bit too low.

The UTH is enough though to keep it at around 91 on the hot side, and 82 on the cool side, with the heat gradient perfect.

I don't recommend a rheostat however, if you don't have the time to check on your snake's tank often.

It could work on multiple enclosures, assuming every enclosure is set up exactly the same. You could use a power strip...if it's a "cheap" tstat, i wouldn't do it though.

    Re: Totally confused

You only need one probe to control multiple enclosure, of course this mean you need to have the same type of enclosure as well as the same size and wattage heat source and off course this mean all the enclosures will have the same temps.

While a cheap thermostat could control more than one enclosure (of course as long as the enclosure are the same as well as the heat source) I would not recommend it.

Cheap thermostat are prone to failure and often don’t have a huge output capacity.

Now if you want a thermostat that control several enclosures at different temperatures you need to buy the herpstat pro or the other option is to buy several thermostats.

Does the herptat pro have more than one probe? I want to control my cool side uth to 82, my warm side uth to 91, and I would like to have my heat emitter controlling my ambient temps to be around 86. I don't see how this would be possible with one thermostat unless I had different probes and could set 3 different temps

Yep, the herpstat Pro has 4 probes, 4 outputs. It truly is an awesome piece of equipment!
