Staph Infection- MRSA
Does anyone know some good information about this? Or do any of you know someone that had or does have it? I've googled it but I havent really come up with too much, just symtoms, really... I'm just wondering because my feoncee has a symtom- which means that if he does have it then its more than likely I do too... His symptom is 'little pimple-like bumps', and I guess they dont irritate him at all, but were going in tomarrow... Soem help, please?

I'm not a member of the medical profession, but it seems really unlikely that it would be MRSA.
MRSA stands for Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. It's a very drug resistant strain of staph. Wiki article link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methici...ococcus_aureus)
'little pimple-like bumps' could be anything from clogged pores, an allergic reaction...etc.

MRSA infections are usually large boils that hurt like heck. A simple Google search should yield some useful info. MRSA has been a hot topic in the news lately.

Re: Staff Infection- MRSA
I heard something on the news the other day about how everybody has staff on they're skin already.
And it takes a cut or scratch to do give it to you. And will put you at the doctors or in the hospital.
I thought that's what I heard. Hope that helps.

I know, thats what I though till I read this....:
Signs and symptoms
Staph infection
Staph infections, including MRSA, generally start as small red bumps that resemble pimples, boils or spider bites. These can quickly turn into deep, painful abscesses that require surgical draining. Sometimes the bacteria remain confined to the skin. But they can also burrow deep into the body, causing potentially life-threatening infections in bones, joints, surgical wounds, the bloodstream, heart valves and lungs.

Re: Staff Infection- MRSA
I had a form of a staph infection that was very similar to what you are discribing. It was basically pimple like things on my arms and upper back. It looked a lot like acne. I can't remember exactly what the doctor called it. If I remember correctly it was follicitis because the infection was in the hair follicles. I treated it with an antibiotic gel that I put on once a day and I seem to occasionly still get the bumps but they have never been as bad as they once were. I don't know where I got the infection from and my girlfriend of three years never contracted it so if it is the same thing I would think that you would be safe.

Re: Staff Infection- MRSA
If you suspect that you may have a staph infection, it's best to get to a doctor. This strain is treatable if caught early, but can be fatal so it's nothing to sneeze at. I went online earlier to look for images of a staph infection and there was quite a variation. The one main component is that there is an open wound that allows the infection to take hold. If you have a cut or abrasion treat it with an antibiotic ointment and cover with a bandaid.

Re: Staph Infection- MRSA
Hi,
My wife works on the surgical floor of the hospital where they receive quite a few MRSA patients. Generally, MRSA is not spread to other people, unless they are sick, or have weak immune systems. Many people carry MRSA and don't know it because they are healthy and it doesn't normally show, or affect you, unless you have a depressed immune system for some reason.
Sometimes it does look like irritated pimples or small wounds (some people come in for 'spider bites' that turn out to be MRSA). If symptoms last a few days or more, or get worse, you should go to the doctor. It is spread by direct contact, and if you have to go to the hospital for it, you will go into isolation. The main thing is to catch it early and not let it spread- once caught, it is fairly treatable- most people are rid of it in a few weeks.
A simple swab can test for it (usually in the nasal cavity), but it also shows up on most lab work. Although she's never had anyone die from it on her floor (they're already AT the hospital at that point!), it can be fatal. Definitely get to a doctor if it doesn't clear up!

This is true, everyone has a natural flora of bacteria that live in various parts of your body. Mostly they are beneficial, normal bacteria on the skin (which does include a couple strains of staph) can prevent foreign bacteria from thriving due to limited nutrient resources, bacteria in the intestines helps to further break down food, allowing us to gain the max nutrients from the food we eat as well as some of these bacteria making some of our essential vitamins that we need as almost waste products to them. The numbers of the bacteria of our natural flora are normally relatively low, but they will and can take advantage of lowered immune systems as well as cuts and scrapes to get into areas of the body they are normally not in (hence the reason to clean and use antibiotic ointment, etc. when you get a cut...) and can cause infections.
Here are a couple links for anyone that wants further info on this:
