    what would YOU do?

Ok, so I'm in a pickle... I've got this beautiful new fella I picked up today that I want to try to prove out, but I've also got a male pastel I was originally planning to breed with my two adult females this winter. Now I know I'll be breeding the new guy to see where that goes, but what should I do with the pastel? Put him in the rotation too? Breed one with each of the girls exclusively? Leave him out for this year? I'm lost on what to do... what would YOU do?

Depends on how bad you want to prove out that new guy. I'd say give your new guy one and your pastel one. Best of both worlds. and then at least you might know if your new guy is genetic.

    That's what I would do.

Got any pics of 'nameless'? I'd breed the pastel to one at least, probably one exclusively and have the two males share the second female. proving a new look is fun, but it's a shot in the dark. You don't want to lose out on producing those valuble female pastels (which you should hold back every one of)

I agree. Breed the Pastel to one and the "special" male to one. If you breed both males to both females, you won't know if the normals in the clutches are from the Pastel, or if your "special" male isn't genetic, is recessive, etc. If you got 1 clutch from the "special" male only, then you'll get a better idea of whether it's genetic or not (because you'll know that the entire clutch is from him).

Good luck! Do you have any pics of your "special" male?

Pics are in another thread. He's at a friend's house right now, so these are all I have for now.

    Re: what would YOU do?

I would breed the Pastel to both girls. The only reason I say that is because you said that was your original plan. Most of the time I switch my original plan (which I sit down and create at length, but change on a whim) and after the season is over, I wish I would have stuck to my original plan. However, that is a good looking male, and if I were you, could understand your dilema. Is there a chance that you could pick up another breedable female for him, and not have to change your original plan?
