Can someone tell me about these guys as far as attitude? How easy are they to handle? How is their temperment?

I have 2...The oldest is a male and he is very cool. He doesn't squirm so much but if you were to put him on the ground he would be gone in a second...they are very quick! My other one was a rescue. She is a little fiesty. and she is very squirmy. When she is startled she rattles her tail like a rattlesnake. SO CUTE!

I really like them...they are pretty cool.

    Re: Corn snake personality??

It varies from snake to snake. I have one snow corn and she is normally very calm. She doesn't mind handling and loves to explore. She will only get aggressive if you smell like dinner. I've also heard of corns that are aggressive and nippy no matter what but those were mostly rescues or snakes that were not handled.

That is another thing. Corn snakes normally calm down after some handling. I once didn't handle Zim for two weeks and when I went to stick my hand in the cage, she went for it. Luckily she missed, but still.

In my opinion, corn snakes rock!

I have two corn snakes - a male and a female, both are pretty easy to handle, they move alot more then a ball python. My female was older and kept with the breeder for a while - which means she was handled less, and she is a bit more skitterish then my male, but when I pick her up she's fine. My male is very calm and relaxed!

I love these guys. And their personalities do vary from snake to snake. My local pet store can't give one away who bites everything she sees. They seem to be more squirmy when they are little. I got a baby a month ago and she just tried to get away from me at first. Now she actually falls asleep in my hands! If you are thinking about it I would get a baby and handle it daily except two or three days after eating. Handling a Corn is probably the only time you will ever see it. By the way, Corns will go for frozen thawed like a porterhouse.

Thanks everyone, that is pretty much what I thought. They are just amazing to look at! So many colors. I had a rat snake once that was just so aggresive. I want to make sure I get a snake that isnt going to try to eat me every time I hold it! LOL Thats why I love my bp..

Yeah, when they're little they're pretty "squirmy", and sometimes are a little nippy. But as they get older they calm down a lot. All my cornsnakes that are at least 2 yrs old are just as chill and laid back as any bp I've ever handled.

Agreed, I think they're under-rated. Too many people think "Oh cornsnakes, how boring, I had one when I was 10 twenty yrs ago, big deal" and so on. But they're awesome little snakes; especially becauae they come in just about every color - and it's very affordable to get some awesome looking ones, too!.

    Re: Corn snake personality??

Yep, affordibility is a big bonus to the little guys... just the fact that my BP is a normal (@$55) and my corn is an Amelenistic ($40) should give you an idea.

I love my male corn, even though I got him as a 13month old from a breeder so he was never really handled. When I pick him up, he bolts as though he were on fire (which is the main reason his name is Aries - my spelling of the God of War), but he never tries to bite...guess I got lucky in that regard. I've been trying to handle him at least twice a week, but haven't had much luck lately due to midterms. Well, I'll just keep trying...hopefully he'll settle down before too long.

But I still wouldn't give him up. He's beautiful and so fun to watch eat. If I tried watching Nagini, she would probably refuse her food and hide. I would certainly recommend getting a juvenile and handling them regularly, though. I was too nervous about getting a tiny baby corn and having it not eat for me or get away, so I picked out an adult. Oh well, live and learn.
