    Mysterious Blood :S

Im a little nervous right now. I came in to check on my BP today and I noticed a bit of blood on one of his hides. A few drops anyways, but for something as small as him, a fair bit. Hes about 4 months old, and he last ate on Wednesday. I didnt notice any cuts on him, but I havent been able to inspect him up close, as he isnt normally awake for another little while. (I lifted his hide and took a look.) Does that mean its internal? Is it normal to bleed from a bit of indigestion? Help please ...

is there any possibility the blood was from his last meal that you just now noticed? sometimes a bp will squeeze blood from it's preys.

    Re: Mysterious Blood :S

I didnt notice anything last time, although it is very near where he made the kill, and I never stick around to watch. I considered that, but I wanted to make sure. The blood looks thinner then a persons.. Like its diluted... Snake blood is a very dark crimson, isnt it?

it could be blood from the last prey item or from his last shed. it is common for them to bleed a few drops from the vent area when shedding.

That was your first mistake.. I'm taken this as you feed live? I have over 400 snakes and stick around for each kill! Not saying it is his blood just letting you know next time it could be or worse! Pay attention or get ride of him..

I stick around to see him strike, and start constricting. When it looks like theres no fight in the prey, or its dead, THEN I leave. I heard they prefer to be alone to actually ingest a meal. I dont leave him alone with prey, so no need to be so harsh Jasballs.

    Re: Mysterious Blood :S

when i feed my two ball pythons i watch the strike the kill and the ingestion. if they strike the head then i dont need to worry so much but when they get the side or the but i use some bamboo tongs to let the mouse chew on as it dies. better the tongs than my snakes. yesterday i spent half an hour watching my two snakes eat ( silly male couldnt find the snout since he was coiled on it lol.) just part of owning a snake you gotta keep an eye on them! i hope your snake is fine

    Re: Mysterious Blood :S

I always feed my snakes F/T rats and mice.
I drop them in and once they start to squeeze, I turn everything off (ie: TV, Radio, Lights) and close the door and walk away.
I find if I stick around my BP doesn't want to eat in front of me...
I think I kind of gave him (canadianninja) the idea to let them strike and kill then walk away and let them eat in peace. (Only beauce he was having trouble a while ago getting his BP to eat)
But you need to come back in like 10-20 minutes to make sure it's all gone. Don't just assume he ate it.
My F/T rats always leave blood behind after a feed. (almost always) but it's because they have blood on there nose and when they thaw it runs.
Don't know why your snake had some blood.
When I used to feed live the snakes teeth could sometimes draw blood from the rat or mouse. That could be it.
Just scan over your snake and sheck to see if he got bit or something.
I dont think it's something that you need to worry too much about yet! Just keep an eye of them!
