Washing Bowls in Dishwasher?
I did a serarch on here and found that some people seem to wash their water bowls in their dishwasher.
Is this really safe to do? Does it get hot enough to kill any germs? It would save me a lot of time cleaning them, but it wouldn't be worth getting violently ill.

Yep, it's fine. If it's hot enough in there to clean your dishes, then it'll get water bowls clean. If you're worried about salmonella or other things, you can do an empty cycle using vinegar. Will clean your dishwasher of hard water deposits too

Yep, it's fine. I wash all of my bowls in the dishwasher and have never had a problem.
If you're concerned, you can see if your DW has a Hot Start or Extra Hot setting and wash them that way.

If you wash plates and bowls that had raw chicken on them, well, snake bowls wouldn't really be any dirtier.
I wouldn't trust it to sterilize completely, but I wouldn't be worried about doing my dishes in there afterward.
If you need to sterilize them, you'd have to do a bleach-water soak or something. (That's what they do in a lot of restaurants).

I never thought of the chicken thing. I guess that a lot of the dishes that go in there probably have nastier stuff on them. I am going to give it a try. It will save me a lot of time. Thanks for the replys.

Re: Washing Bowls in Dishwasher?
We dishwasher wash ours all the time, and speaking bleach, we found a dishwasher soap that has bleach in it, it said it was something 4 or 5% bleach so we gave it a shot, seemed to work good. Don't know if it really disinfected it all the way, but hey some bleach is better then no bleach I would think!
