    Need advice on oral injections

I recently took my bp to the vet because i thought she may have an RI. The vet said no signs of an ri but to keep an eye on her. I couldnt afford a culture. Since shes wild caught and has never been dewormed that i know of she said that would be a good idea. She gave her panacur and metronidazole. I have to give her a second dose in two weeks. She had the vet tech do the injections who clearly had no experience with it, and made it look difficult. The actualy vet gave her the injections in another room where i didnt see how far she stuck it in. Anyways im really just looking for some advice on how to properly give a snake an oral injection. Shes a 3.5 foot female ball python 915 grams, very friendly but when you grab her by the head or neck she freaks out pretty good.

Re: Need advice on oral injections

To clarify, are you using a needleless syringe to squirt a liquid into her mouth, or are you injecting a liquid into her muscle tissue? It sounds like you are doing an oral administration of medication, but not an injection.

grab them rightt behind the head and with your index finger and thumbkinda grab the skin on the bottom of their jaw then with a tongue depressor (popsicle stick)
gently go along her lips until she opens her mouth its best to have someone else ready with the syringe cus once you take you popsicle stick out they will most likely close their mouth.

just restrain the snake by grabbing her in the back of the head. and put the syringe in her mouth, after she opens it...

make sure to watch out for her trachea, get meds in there and your in trouble.... other than that you can push the syringe as far in her throat as you like... i go as far in so that they cant spit it out....

baytril works better for RI... but you wonna make sure she has RI before you start giving baytril

Re: Need advice on oral injections

Quick question. I've got some snakes receiving some meds this week also. And I feed frozen thawed.

Is it ok to pump those meds into the rat before they get fed off? That way I can skip all the hassle of meding em through the throat. And the stress to the snake.
