Re: Hot air Balloon Festival. (**DUW**)
Aric,
The weather looks like it was perfect for a balloon festival! They have one in Helen, GA once a year, but we always seem to miss it.
Fall is in the air, it's time for more festivals!

That Godzilla balloon is tooo trippy! How funny! I wonder if it's harder to control than a standard shaped balloon? The apple with the worm is pretty cool too. They're all so beautiful!!
One of my favorite things about Tucson was how popular the balloons were there. Come winter, you could see one up in the air almost every day. And some special days would have many balloons splashing their color against a crystal blue sky.
Thanks for the awesome pictures!!

The weather last year for the festival was terrible. Had a HUGE storm roll through and they had to cancel the whole event last year, but this year was awesome, if you ever get the chance to go to one then go, it was an awesome experience.

Ahhh the balloon fiestas! That's one thing I miss about living in New Mexico is going to Albuquerque every year for the fiesta. It's beautiful in pictures and on vid but nothing beats the real thing!

They were saying most of the pilots were going straight from here to New Mexico for the fiesta your talking about.

Re: Hot air Balloon Festival. (**DUW**)
From a good friend of mine that is experianced in ballooning:
" Special shape balloons are harder to fly than regular "teardrop-shaped" balloons because you need to be more worried about wind. There are almost always different wind currents in the sky - at one level, the wind could be going northwest, and twenty feet higher up it could be going straight west. This is a problem if the wind is too strong and pushes the balloon in two different directions.
You also have to find a bigger place to land and set up because they are generally bigger than "regular" balloons. They are also usually heavier, so you need more crew to help you get ready to fly or to put the balloon away. However, I still think they are worth it, because they are so much fun to watch! "
